fun times

We had a little photo shoot at our house today for the Palmgren's. Of course, when Jen brought over her adorable petticoats, I HAD to snap a few pictures. Unfortunately, Saylor Lillie was not a willing participant but Sophia had fun until...
...maybe I should take this as a hint of TOO MANY pictures.

look out world...

because in 6 days my baby girl is turning ONE! It's absolutely unbelievable how fast times flies.

what a bribe can do

I signed up for a "tiny dancer" photo session at Reflections Photography. I wanted to a) scout out the competition and their equipment (not that I am nor want to be at the level) b) hope that someone else could capture a picture that I have yet to accomplish with my 3 yr old and c) you know me, I'm a sucker for any picture of my kids. I guess I should have known immediately that it was not going to go well when Saylor was crawling around on the floor imitating a snake in her ballerina leotard and tutu. ANYWAY, prior to, I bribed Saylor Lillie with a "if you're a good girl and smile, we'll buy you that sucker you've been eyeing at the candy store." Unfortunately, as you can see, she obtained the prize but not because of ear to ear smiles. Really, is it that hard to smile?

The silver lining...I held my own photo shoot at home and this is what I came up with. So much more her personality than a ballerina outfit. I guess I'll hold out for Sophia to be a little princess.

extended playdate

Here's a picture of what my AWESOME sister-in-law accomplished - all kids happy - while Josh and I were vacationing in Texas. I'm still perplexed on how she handled 5 kids under 5. I guess she truly is the meaning of amazing.

And pictures from San Antonio you ask? Where are they? Well, great packing Jen forgot her camera. Actually, that's not entirely true, I stole my mom's camera but didn't notice that it was completely out of battery power until unpacking at the hotel. We ended up buying a ghetto 27 exposure disposal but now I'm back in 2000 with the non digital prints. I'll find a way, just give me a week.

who knew

Who knew how much fun one could have with a pair of scissors. I bought Saylor a pair of scissors last week and she played for HOURS - seriously, hours. She cut paper while I packed for San Antonio, she cut while I did laundry, she cut while I made lunch. And, to top off my delight, she cleaned up her mess. My next brainstorm is how to silence her while in church. Is it appropriate to bring scissors to church?

Fun Day Friday

It was all fun and games at playgroup on Friday until I walked outside and noticed that SOMEONE had not played nice with my car. SOMEONE had hit my car when they were backing out and left 3 lovely scraps on the drivers side. Here's to paying for my deductible.

Big Girl

Sophia thinks she is SO big these days (and with her birthday only weeks away, I guess she is). She loves to stand up on her own but then starts giggling with such delight that she falls back down. Plus, you've got to love the wide stance...
Here's the cutie in an oversized onsie with bow. Love it.

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

My friend Jeanne gave me a fabulous idea for V-Day (she did this for her girls this morning). I placed hearts from Saylor's and Sophia's room to the dining room where Josh and I had arranged their Valentine treats. Saylor could not believe her eyes when she awoke from her nap.

It was a great day filled with special treats, special valentines
Special flowers from a special someone

and special smiles!

swimming lessons

I'm a firm believer in doing for your second as you did for your first...but I might be changing my ways. We had swimming lessons last night. A) I enlisted my pop to assist since Josh is under the weather so the situation really was not ideal. B) the frigid temps were not the best since we parked forever away and C) Saylor is too old for the parent/tot group but because of my slacking mother skills I was unable to enroll her in the private lessons. Needless to say, Sophia HATED the water and Saylor Lillie received nothing from the session. It’s a possibility that I might be changing my beliefs to a firm believer in equal opportunities only if the participant is willing and enjoying.

turning over a new leaf

well, well, well my hubby has finally started to perk up and consume a few bites of this and that. He had a little bowl of chicken and noodles tonight and was even willing to try the McD's hamburger I bought for him today at lunch. Now, I just need him out of the house and back to work. It's really hard to get much done when he's laying around the house - from the couch to the bed, to the bed to the couch, upstairs couch to downstairs couch...are you getting the picture. ;)

honey I'm home and I had a hard WEEK

We're home...but I'm scared to death. The doc released Josh this afternoon. I walked down the hall to see a fellow friend, who took the sympathy card a little to the max and had her own appendix removed last night, and while I was gone - all of 10 minutes - the doc gave him a green light. Trust me, had it been up to me, even though I want him home and life back to normal, I think one more day would have really helped. We'll see. He ate 7 bites of toast this morning. Oh yeah, he had that Jello on Wednesday so that's a feather in his cap. I'm really concerned about the non food issue. Hopefully, once his appetite is back it will stay down. Wish us luck.

turning a corner

FINALLY, more up's than down's today on this ruptured appendix ride. Both of his x-rays came back negative and the fluid is starting to void thanks to the lasix. His spirits are up and...drum roll please, the light is shining on the possibility of him coming home this weekend! Although, Josh just hesitated with a "don't jinx us now" comment. Fingers crossed and happy faces forward!

Another highlight is all the babies boys being born, that's one perk to living in the hospital for a week, I'm privy to that info or maybe it's because I see the cars in the parking lot. :) It's a pity that neither boys nor parents for that matter, decided on the name Joshua. Congrats to Hodges and Carsons on the new additions - Baby Maddox Owen and Baby Davis Phillip.

Friday's Update

Here’s the condensed list of what’s going on:
a) white blood count is down to 10,400 – the highest point was 16,900 on Tuesday
b) he’s currently having a chest and abdomen x-ray. Chest to check for fluids and possible pneumonia and abdomen due to all the retention of water
c) he weighed 170.4 prior to surgery on Monday. He weighed 186.8 last night. His abdomen is retaining water because of the infection and damage to his insides.
d) they gave him 20 mg of lasix to help shed some fluid
e) the doc says it’s a “play by play” case so he is still unsure when Josh will be released.
f) mornings are good, afternoon’s are bad.
g) still on liquid diet although it really doesn’t matter since he has zero appetite.

I’ll let you know once we hear the results of today’s labs and x-rays.

need, need, need

My dad always said there is a difference between wants and needs. I guess, let me preface by saying I want and need for Josh to progress and head home. Not only for health reasons but also because the past two weeks have been a spinning vortex of ups and downs and I need normalcy back. Anyway, I want a constant flowing IV of Dr. Pepper. I need water, food and exercise. Josh wants to go running, sledding with the kids and someone to stick a needle in his belly to relieve the overwhelming amount of pressure. He needs to void a large amount of fluid as he has gained 15 lbs since Monday (that’s right, since his surgery late Monday afternoon the man who has consumed only 3 oz. of Jelly and a handful of Cran Apple juices has gained weight).

Thankfully, my other need was fulfilled today by Palmgren - McDonald's was good to me! I'm counting down the days until we can gather as a family and enjoy a relaxing, joyful dinner together at McDonalds.

Musical Beds

Let's see, we've went from sharing a room, to a plush suite on the pediatric wing, then back to a single room. It's been musical beds for Josh sans the music. He was not chipper about this last move. He was resting peacefully when he awoke to the news of yet another move. I'm not sure why all the shuffling, the staff and doctors have been SO helpful and accommodating to my hubby's grumbly tummy, that I can not complain.

Josh was switched to a liquid diet this afternoon. Although, he has yet to eat or drink anything other than water, ice chips and a few sips of Cran Apple Juice. I know he's not feeling well when he turns down ice cream. The dr. said that J. needs to be on IV antibiotics for at least five days so he's staying until Friday for sure.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers.

Josh Update - Wednesday

Greetings Friends and Family - I'm using Josh's computer and it has a block on just about EVERY internet address known - excluding this. I guess State Farm hasn't learned of the blogging world as of yet. Josh is doing well. He's shown no signs of a fever for the past 24 hours and due to his increased risk of infection, that's a great sign. He was able to shower today which was a perk for EVERYONE.

Currently he is busy watching "Miracle." At one time he had tears in his eyes from some motivational speech Kurt Russell was making - honestly, this boy needs out of here! He's made a few laps walking around the hospital. Sophia was up this morning and with me holding her hands, they have equal walking speeds. I need to bring up her walker and they can take laps together.

Saylor is unfazed on our current situation. She's more concerned of "the balloons" she heard about in daddy's hospital room. That's all she talks about when I pop in at home. She has yet to visit and I know that's a gigantic indication of how Josh is feeling. He just has been depleted of all energy and a 3 yr. old would probably not help.

I'll continue to keep you posted. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

Scratch that...keep the prayer's coming

Sorry, more prayers needed for the Salmans Family. Josh's appendix ruptured sometime this past weekend and he underwent surgery late yesterday afternoon. He's holding his own although he's in a tremendous amout of pain. We're confident that the antibotic's will do the job and he can come home later this week. Thankfully, he was transferred to a private room late this evening. His roomie was pleasant, confined to his hospital bed, but his fear of the dark was not too appealing at 3 am. Oh, the trails and tribulations...

prayers answered

We received Saylor Lillie's EEG results on Friday and everything looks normal. I didn't realize last week I only posted pictures and not the reason for the test until many of you emailed. Basically, at her three yr. appt her dr., who is the best dr., referred us to Children's Mercy in KC to consult a pediatric neurologist for possible seizures. The neurologist recommended we have the EEG although both Saylor's family practice dr. and the neurologist thought it was unlikely that she was having seizures. Everything is great and we celebrated health this weekend with a new movie from target and lots of special treats!

We now need to find out what's wrong with Josh as he visited the ER today with stomach issues. Geez, we can not get a break!
